Can't change duration of Illustrator vector files

I am just going to start off by saying I am just learning After Effects, so bear with me. I am creating a vector animation in AE but made all my vectors in AI. I may have made the mistake of creating all my frames in one big Illustrator file with multiple art boards. I saved the AI files so the art boards are separated into different .ai files. I imported one of the .ai files (one frame with layers) into AE it shows only that frame and the including layers. However, when I try to change the duration of the frame, it only shows the frame for a split second. If the video keeps playing, then other frames from different artboards start showing for a split second. These frames that show up for just a split second shouldn't be one this frame because they are from different art boards that shouldn't be saved with this .ai file. It seems as though all the other artboards are still connected to the file in some way. If my explanation didn't make sense, here's a video that shows what's happening.

Here is what worked for me. The big difference that made me ask the same question is that I didn't uncheck the "Illustrator/PDF/EPS Sequence"

Select the Layer in the Timeline and go to the Time / Enable Time Remapping menu. Then grab the end of the Layer and stretch it in time. You must do this with each Layer that you need to stretch. Or select all Layers and enable time remapping. I hope this is what you need to do, at least it is what I understand with your video because your explanation is not very good really.

I think Rick is closer to what is going on in that composition and the issue here is that bethanyh58355940 is importing still images, still vector graphics as a sequence and as a seqquence it have ste time. Way you shown works with compositions, image swquences and video file not with still graphics. Time remaping will not work with single images/graphics.

I am a little confused reality with what is happening to her, I am not sure if her sequences are very fast or if she has imported as a sequence of images by mistake while she wanted to import as a composition with the separated layers. I answered my answer based more or less watching the video hehe. There are lots of ways to resize the sequence of images but I do not know if that is what she needs to solve.

99% chance you imported the AI file as footage with the sequence option and probably the Create Composition options checked.

Judging from the multiple layers in your timeline I'm assuming there are multiple layers in your AI file. You probably should be importing the file as a composition, probably retaining layer sizes and making sure that the option to import as a sequence is not selected. If you do that then a composition with all of the layers in the AI file will be automatically created. Just open that, all the anchor points will be aligned with the center of each layer and everything will be arranged perfectly in the composition.

If you expand the timeline to include the entire duration of the adjusted comp you will see that the layers are all very short. Let me revise my original guess. 75% chance you imported as a sequence, 25% chance that you don't understand the Timeline UI or how to adjust the out points of layers. I didn't see either of those things tried.
