Can't Distribute Layers and Align Layers to "Selection" – After Effects 2020

I'm not being able to use the "Selection" option under Align tab and can't distribute layers. Both the options are grayed out. (See attached screenshots)

Till now, I've –

Tried selecting multiple layers (more than 3)
Tried resetting preferences.

I'm using After Effects 2020 v. 17.0.4 (Build 59). Help me out.

The align tool works with layers. You only have one. The components of a shape layer are not considered layers. You will have to move each rectangle to a separate layer.
