Can't import Photoshop layers into After Effects 2022

I'm trying to import a "psd" file with layers into Ae 2022. But it keeps giving me a "Bad Tracked Memory ID 23::33" error.

And for what it seems, this error has been happening to many users since Jan 2022.

Say, Adobe. What gives? Are you going to fix this?

Or is time for me to lookup an Ae alternative?

Hi, for everyone struggling with the .psd import, here is a workaround:

Import the .psd as footage. Then put it in new composition, then right click on the file in the compo:
Create - Convert to Layered Comp

Works like a charm, I hope this helps:)

For starters, thanks Adobe for the endless loop of login to this site and forced to go through the app options then back out again. This was on Windows 10 box and after 10m of that I decided to try it on my Mac.

That was an awful experience.

Now to this new issue.
How could this be new? I've been running CC 2022 for months and never had this issue.

Did something break...again?

Anyways non of the above works.

I had to export each layer to a single PNG for it to import into AE.

Yes I can upgrade to CC 2023 but thats just not feasible when your in a time crunch.

Again thanks for the awful morning 😛

That PNG workaround is not longer working.  I tried first importing my psd as footage and then importing it again as composition-retain layer sizes.  Crashes every time.

Never mind. Someone in another thread found a workaround.

I am having this annoying issue,
I try the import PNG file, erase it, import again PSD, and nothing. Not working for me

The first thing you must check is that the color space of your PSD document must be RGB not CMYK. After Effects can not import PSD layered documents in CMYK space.

Hi Reynaldo Leon,

Sorry for your issue. Please share the following details so that we can troubleshoot the issue properly.

  • What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)?
  • What's the exact version of After Effects and Photoshop you're using?
  • Does it happen with all the PSD files or a particular one?

Let us know, we're here to help.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hi Nishu,

I'm having the same issue Leon had and I really don't wanna have to do the workaround every time I need to use a PS file, so I'm gonna provide my system specifications for you:

DESKTOP-EJF82SG
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz

RAM 32,0 GB

62 Bits
Windows 11 Home Single Language
Geforce RTX 2060 Notebook - driver updated

I'm able to work perfectly with PS files on AE 2021, but when it comes to AE 2023... It won't import.

Hope you can help me 😃

Cheers,

Tainá
