Question

Can't install older AE/PP

Hello,

I have an older system that doesn't work with the latest versions of AE, PP, etc. The latest version I think works is 23.6 (AE), but there is not way to install that. I can get older versions of PS, AI, etc, but not the other apps. See the attached screenshot.

Any way to fix this?

Thanks!

Just yell at support till they give you a link. That's how I rolled back to CS6, to great effect. But yes, this has been a consistent complaint, from hobbyists to corporate partners- Adobe doesn't do "support" like other companies. Take something like blender- they choose particularly stable versions that have been extensively tested and support those for several years, applying bugfixes even if they won't get updates. Adobe says "you will do what we say, and we say newer is better and we worked really hard to add a 3D model viewer please try it out, and to make sure you try it, using old versions past a certain point is against the rules.

Yes, even if it means studios can't trust their software to keep working. Yes it means hobbyists and freelancers get bulky updates filled with features they never wanted. No it does not suggest updates do anything useful, or add things. (Some remove more used features than they add, like that one which removed MP4 support. Or the other that removed prototype multithreading.

Welcome to adobe.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. I actually just did this. I've been looking all over for days and couldn't find a thing. Couldn't talk to adobe support since I am on a teams account, but finally managed to. During the talk they kept telling me the version I wanted was not supported and I should just update my system. Obviously don't want to do that, but eventually got a working downloadable file and installed everything I want. The fact that this is so complicated is just nuts, just let me decide what I want and need.

But anyways, it's working now and never updating it. Thanks again.

Yep, if they ever give you trouble again, you can just mention Davinci resolve is free to UHD 4k and has nuke-like nodes, and nuke is free to 1080p to pressure them, and I refuse to rate the representative well if they refuse to escalate to devs or management when needed. After all, if Adobe is pushing the responsibility of enabling support and handling technical debt... onto their non-developer phone or chat support staff. The best way to solve the issue is to not let the support staff push it onto adobe's clients- ie. us. It's unethical for them to claim they have industry-leading software, but force users to break industry standard to satisfy shareholders, and I refuse to allow both to happen without at least a hefty discount- after all, they do less to support versions than free, zero-support, as-is software like blender.

I always make sure they escalate this as an issue, because switching versions mid-production is against many companies', and indeed, the industry at large's operating procedures. Even the best maintained software breaks when we do VFX on one version, because VFX is always pushing boundaries. More often then not, being able to maintain a stable software version for several years is central to a functioning, non-bankrupt studio.

anyway, enough ranting.
May we see you in open source soon.
