Can't open After Effect on Windows 10 Error 0xc0000142

Hello,

As of today, I have not been able to open AE cc 2022. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and the problem still occurs. I even uninstalled my 3/9/22 Windows update to see if that would fix the problem. No luck. I have the full Adobe Package and all other apps open fine. I even tried opening AE 2022 on my laptop running Win 10 and it works fine. Not sure what else to try. Any ideas?

See the error popup below.

Thanks - troy

This is what worked for me. After you install all the C++ files from above post, go into your after effects support files (for me its C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects 2025\Support Files\) and rename or delete 'MSVCP140.dll', this will cause after effects to reload the dll needed.

It took a long time to solve, but the reason is that the motherboard BIOS has not been updated for too long, causing the CPU to not display support for AVX. After updating the BIOS on the motherboard official website, it can now be used

Are you sure? Have anybody done it?

Who ever not able to fix the issue, Download this and run all the vcredists. Worked for me.
Download Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One Oct 2024 | TechPowerUp

0xc0000142 error
This problem is related to the OpenCV and your hardware library.
The library that comes with After Effects does not work on outdated hardware.
This is solvable.

Hi troyd88865729,

Thanks for writing in.

In addition to what Mylenium said, outdated app can cause this issue in some cases. What's the version of After Effects you're using? Please update if it's not already. If that doesn't work, try disabling your antivirus.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu

Same problem here. I have installed the latest updates for Windows 10 (64 bit), latest NVidia driver, uninstalled AfterEffects, did a registry and disk cleanup, restarted the system, installed latest version of AfterEffects. It did not solve the problem. I still have the same problem as Troy.

Forgot to mention that disabling anti virus program did not help either. Hopefully someone knows how to solve that AfterEffects can run again.

The event viewer is your standard system app for viewing critical info, including anything related to hard crashes.

Probably some driver issue that causes a security thing and makes it crash due to a kernel violation. Start by checking your event viewer for more info. It may also be useful to run Sysinternal's Process Explorer while AE attempts to launch to figure out which module or procedure call is failing.

Thanks. Event Viewer? Is this an Adobe or Microsoft issue?
