I'm trying to set the 'Commit changes to text' shortcut as my escape key, but when i try to set it, it closes the 'edit shortcuts' window instead of registering the key.

The standard Enter key functions as a carriage return in AE   Use Num Pad Enter to commit changes.

Some keys cannot be remapped and that is that. Escape and Enter are traditionally used to dismiss or confirm dialogs and inputs, so your idea doesn't even make much sense to begin with - to me at least. Why would anyone want to remap such a key, even more so since text changes can already be commited using the numpad enter key? Perhhaps it would be more efficient to just learn AE's default keys than wasting time on trying to bend the rules too much...

If it weren't for Adobe's inconsistencies across their own product range I wouldn't need change the habits i've learnt in photoshop and indesign - where you use esc to commit changes.
