Cannot apply different styles to part of the text

I've run into a potential bug that I've never come across before. 

I'm trying to for example outline part of the text in a layer and I can either do it for the entire text or not at all. It only happens with a particular typeface I'm using so I guess it's connected to it. 

 

Has anyone come across something like this before? Is there any way to make it work.

Never see anything like that. You can decompose the text, meaning type the part you want outlined on one layer and the rest on another layer. Or just use a different typeface.

Decomposing would be something I'd like to avoid due to the sheer amount of text involved.

It's a weird issue, you may just have to use a different font or something. I've never seen that. Maybe wait an expert to reply.
