Question

Cannot change media cache directory for AfterEffects or Premiere, using macOS 10.15.3

Hi, I've never had this problem before, but I just set up a clean-install of macOS 10.15.3 on a 2018 MacBook PRo, and installed Adobe CC as usual. However, when I click on the "Choose Folder..." for disk cache in AfterEffects, the whole preference window simply disappears. When I click on the "Browse..." for disk cache in Premiere, the button simply fills-blue and nothing happens.

I know macOS Catalina has lots of security and permissions that might be getting in the way, but I was using both these programs with Catalina on another Mac and had no issues, so I'm confused what's going on.

Any thoughts? Thanks forum.

I'm still unable to resolve this issue, and have also discovered that I cannot change the directory of a new Premiere project, or import files to the Animate CC library (it just crashes). I suspect this is all related to macOS Catalina.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. As you mentioned, it could be a permission related issue. Try giving Full Disk Access to After Effects and Premiere Pro. Here's how: https://macpaw.com/how-to/full-disk-access-mojave

Let us know if it helps.

Thanks,

Nishu

Unfortunately in Full Disk Access I cannot select AfterEffects or Premiere... hmm.

Ok, I was able to -drag- the AfterEffects application icon into the Full Disk Access list, which then carried it over to the Files and Folders permissions list. But still: I cannot change my scratch disk location using the preferences menu -- the preferences menu just closes as it did before.

You can directly edit the preferences file to change the cache directory if you like to do so.

/Users/{user name}/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After\ Effects/17/Adobe After Effects 17.0 Prefs.txt
