Cannot Import FCP XML file into After Effects

Hi guys,

My usual workflow of FCP xml file exported from davinci into after effects stopped working today.

When I go to import the xml file as normal, after effects completely ignores it and the composition does not appear in the project panel.

I wish I could be more detailed, but as AE is not reporting any error itself,  I have no idea what the problem could be.

I have emptied the cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the software, tried earlier verisons, all to no avail. The issue persists.

Any help much appreciated

If you're on Windows 11 it could be that odd bug where the XML file's encoding is misinterpreted. In this case you should check your language and region settings and set them to basic Western encoding and "plain" English instead of region-specific sub-sets. also check the XML file in a text editor. You may need to manipulate the header in a similar fashion and change the info. Outside that of course the standard steps apply: Save the file to a different location to test, use different options, avoid overly long fiel and folder names and special characters. In fact the latter may even apply for data in the file, so check that you haven't an unusually named clip in there somewhere or added some comment that throws things off.

Even without an error, you could at least give us the basics like the project settings, what footage you used, what system you are on and so on. Outside that of course the first thing to do would be to trash the preferences and reinstall AE, just in case soemthing went screwy there.

Hi Mylenium, yes sorry this is my first post. I've always been lurking.

I'm on windows 11, ryzen 5800, rtx 3080.

Footage is anything - I've tried exporting timelines with just audio, mp4, r3d, prores, you name it, the timeline won't be read by AE. I've also tried running the export and import on various hard drives - internally, external SSDs, and from our office NAS. Same thing every time.

As I said I've already done a fresh install of after effects, and tried older versions, all with the same effect. I've done ctrl+alt+shift reset too.

Thanks for your help
