CC ball action with custom shapes

Is there a way to use CC ball action, put instead of balls have rectangles and/or custom shapes? That would be really helpful, since all other properties of that effect are great.

Ball action doesn’t have that ability but some of the particle systems like CC Particle World, and Particle Playground can use custom layers as the source. They may be able to create the type of movement you want.

As the expert suggested, CC Ball Action doesn’t have that feature. Let us know what kind of result you’re aiming for, and we can suggest a workaround.

I’d like to be able to take a composition and break it up in to controllable ‘particles’, that are rectangular. For example, for a 1920x1200 comp, make a grid of 40x15 rectangles, then be able to manipulate them in 3D space like ball action can. Example, break it apart and float in 3d space.

note, I can’t use a mask, I need the particles to retain their piece of the image as they are maipulated

Unfortunately I see nothing in the effect that allows you to change the balls into custom shapes.
