Centering a group of objects

I can of course link a bunch of objects to a null object and then center the null object to the composition

... but is there a way to center the objects in relation to the null object? It seems like I have to do that bit by eye, but would like something more precise if possible

What are you trying to center around/ between what in what kind of pattern? From just using the alignment option of the move tool to expressions to fancy scripts there could be a million ways to do it, but you really need to explain more specifically.
