Chnage multiple layers image essential graphics after effect

Hi.
Recently I have been trying to create a template and I have the same image twice in my timeline, and in the Essential Graphics you can change only the layer image and not the source image and I want that the user that uses the template will have to change the Image once and I can't pre-compose because I need it to auto-scale to the size that it requires

There are simply limtations and what you want is not possible. At best you can try to reference the image in an effect like CC Simple Composite and use the effects' internal source opacity to overlay it onto your placeholder layer, but even that may not work reliably. Again, some things just are not possible with the current state of EG.
