Combining EXR Blender exports and 2D motion graphics - what color space should I use?

Hi folks. I've been trying to get multilayer Blender EXR's to work with AE. Previously I had set the color space to linear, but the gamma was still off.  I followed Alex Weinburg's tutorial for using ExtractR and OpenColorIO to get Blender's native "Filmic" space displaying the proper gamma. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P2j1hzD8I8. Cool! Sweet! now my renders match my Blender viewport without a bunch of annoying color grading and gamma shifting. The alpha channel for a multilayer EXR from blender still does not work with AE due to premultiplication - but that is a different post... The above workflow also entails turning OFF linearize color in the project settings.

I designed all my motion graphics with this option enabled - now my colors and transparencies are all off. My questions is - was I just dumb for designing 2D motion elements with a linear color space? Is this even necessary for 2D work? The benefit of AE is that I can do VFX compositing and 2D motion graphics in the same program, same project. I am still wrapping my head around the nitty gritty of color spaces as applied to my render engine as opposed to coming from a camera, so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you designed your elements in Blender, then there should be no difference. If at all I would imagine that you may need to adjust textures on objects with transparencies and that sort of thing. Otherwise using linear space or fancy ACES stuff indeed makes almost no sense for stuff created in Illustrator, Photoshop and so on since they all have built-in non-linear color to begin with. Converting them is of course possible, but why would you? As long as their footage interpretation is correct, there's no need. That's what color management is about.
