Comp area

I am new to After Effects and have been learning through tutorials. I wanted to add a lightning effect to just one part of my video for basically 1 second. I trimmed my comp area to that one second and edited the lighnting effect. Now that I am done editing I want to see how the effect looks with the whole clip. However, I can't get the whole clip to play with the effect. Is this because I trimmed the comp space? Is there any way to apply this small segment to the whole clip?

Yes, trimming the comp was unnecassary.

If you created the effect using a adjustment layer, you just need to trim this layer to the second and to the time, you want.

If you created the effect just on the footage, you can cut the clip where the effect appears. Use CTRL + SHIFT + D to cut the clip move forward one sec and cut again. This gives you a 1 sec segment on which you can apply the effect.

You don't have to redo your work noe. Just press CTRL + K to get to comp settings an enter a new, longer duration. Move the in and out point of your clip, so nothing is trimmed and use adjustment layer or clip cuts to segemtent the effect part.
