Comp Window Doesn't Update

I'm using After Effects 17.7.1 currently, but this also happens on the current 18.4.1 build as well. The composition window will not update when I make a change in the timeline. It is either stuck on the nonresponsive "create new composition" screen. Same thing for footage and layer windows as well. I have tried with Mercury GPU acceleration and Software only, and also both enabled and disabled "Hardware accelerate Composition, Layer, and footage panels" to no avail. Not every time, but often when i go to close After effects it becomes nonresponsive and has to be force closed.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling has temporarily helped, but the problem resumed, and subsequent reinstalls don't seem to work. I've reset preferences in both versions and that doesn't seem to work.

Sounds liek a cache issue then. Check the actual crash info in your event viewer or the mroe detailed crash logs. You could be running out of disk space or have a problem with your storage device driver. Of course this doesn't preclude any potential further issues with your GPU acceleration, so double-check that again as well, including updating your driver if possible.

It shouldn't be running out of space, the cache is recently emptied and the drive has 90gigs of free space currently. It doesn't look like it created a crash log on the most recent force quit, but i've uploaded the log itself.

it seems like storage driver and display driver are both up to date.
