Content Aware Fill: Reference frames will not save correctly

I have areas masked out in my footage, and then I have been trying to create reference frames, so it'll open up photoshop and i'll fill in those transparent areas and then save it. It looks fine at first but after generating the fill layer I notice that my reference frames were all saved as though I did no work on them at all. They look the same as they did when it was opened up in Photoshop. Please Help!
