Copy/Paste in After Effects layers not functioning properly

This is driving me crazy! Any time I try to copy and paste layers in After Effects, it doesn't work. Instead, it just pastes whatever I last copied in Premiere. Anyone had this issue? This wasn't a problem for me until AE 2023. I attached a screen cap to show you what I mean. I used ctrl C after highlighting the layers to copy and ctrl V to paste in the next comp.
