Question

Creating multiple versions of a comp at different sizes?

I want to use AE to create different sized ads that can be displayed, example, 1920x1080,  and 728X90 for a web based banner ad. The ads will have a lot of common stuff in them, though they will be very different based on the differing sizes.

  1. What is the best way to go about doing this? Make two separate files or making two comps in the same file?
  2. I have never worked with multiple comps in AE. Is it just like having a separate sequence in Premiere where you can open comps separately, work in them separately and then export them separately?

Thanks

You check Adobe Express and it has many templates of the size. It is useful.

1 - One File, with multiple comps. Once main comp for each necessary size.

2 - Yes. Comps in AE work like sequences in Premiere.

Nesting comps is a bit more common in AE than nesting sequences are in Premiere tough.

    Thanks for writing in.

    1. One project file with multiple comps is always the better approach. It keeps your assets, fonts, and shared elements in one place and it makes batch exporting much easier than juggling separate project files.

    2. Yes, comps work a lot like Premiere sequences. You can open them independently in the Timeline, work on them separately, and queue each one to export with its own settings. After Effects has an advantage here, you can nest a comp into another.

I would do this, I'd create a master comp (most probably it'll be 16:9), complete the animation and then duplicate it in the project panel. Once I have the duplicate copy, I can make changes to it.

Hope it helps. Let me know if there are any other questions.

    Thanks,

I duplicated the composition and when I preview it the animation is the same as what is also in the main composition, though I do not see any keyframes or stop watches enabled when I expand the layers. How do I see the keyframes in the duplicated layers to make changes to it?

I also had two layers of audio in my main comp, though the duplicate seems to have both layers on a single audio layer?

    Thanks

Thats strange. That shouldn’t happen. When a composition is duplicated in the Project panel (the program will usually enumerate it), double clicking on it in the panel opens it’s own unique timeline.

It is supposed to duplicate everything exactly.
