Dependencies/Collect files problems

in 26,2,1 version Depencies/Collect files is working differently from older versions and it’s working WRONG…
I have folders with names 001, 002, 003, 004 and inside are sub folders with rendered images.
However when I do Collect files, all the folders are “flatened” and all image sequences are put in single folders with changed names, but not all folders are processed and half of the sequences are gone or replaced with wrong ones….

Hi Blakk77, thanks for writing in. To my knowledge, nothing has changed in After Effects' Collect Files feature in recent releases, so I recreated your workflow on my end to investigate.

Here's what I found: the result depends on how the files were originally imported into the project.

    • If individual files are imported from inside subfolders, Collect Files flattens the structure on output.

    • If the parent folder is imported as a whole, Collect Files retains the original folder hierarchy.

So in your case, with folders 001, 002, 003, 004 containing sequences, the cleaner approach is to import each parent folder into AE (File > Import > File, then select the folder) rather than going inside and importing the individual sequences. That should preserve your structure when collecting.

Give that a try and let me know if it resolves it! Moving this post from Bugs to Questions for now.

    Thanks,

    Nishu

for the past 15 years it worked fine with all the folders and subfolders, if it’s depending now on “how you import your footage” it means that it has changed since 25 version.
Also, it does not KEEPS the right order of the files, I had 5 sequences and after “collecting” and opening new project 3 sequences had SAME files on the timeline. so much for “not changed”
