Did something change with some expressions in 2024? A bug?

Hey there. Was just going to show my AE intro class one of the basic expressions for the Lens Flare center to follow a 3D sun layer while a camera is pushing in. 

All of the many expressions I've ever used seem to send AE 24.2 and 24.3 into some weird state where the comp window won't draw and AE freezes up after a minute or two. This is happening both on the school's Mac Studio M1 on Monterey as well as my MacBook Pro M3 Max on Sonoma. 

This is one of the expressions that causes the lockup. 
thisComp.layer("sun").toComp([1000,1000])

When I save this file back to previous versions of AE, it works fine in the older AE.

    Your expression works fine for me on 24.3.0x50 (Win 11 though).

      Interesting. Thanks. I'll see if it works for any of my students with Windows laptops. I was just going to show them the concept anyway but would have been nice to have them actually use it.
