Difficulty Accessing Vector Path Properties in Imported AI Layers in After Effects

Hello Adobe Community,

I'm encountering an issue with Adobe After Effects when working with imported AI (Adobe Illustrator) files. Even after importing the AI file as a composition, I'm having difficulty accessing the individual vector path properties of the layers within After Effects.

As far as I understand, AI layers are treated as vectors by default in After Effects. But I am not able to see 'path' property until I convet it into shape in after effects. This means AE is treating imported AI files as raster images?

Thank you!

It works as it always has. Unless you convert it, it will be treated as a regular footage item. This has never been any different even for comp imports. You may want to read the online help on some basics.

Thanks for your response but what do you mean by 'regular footage item'. Vector or Raster?
If it is I should see path properties even before converting. If it is Raster, I shouldn't see Convert shape option at all.
