Dimmed composition layer

Part time AE user. 

I have a comp with many layers. Some of the layers are dimmed in the comp and not visible. In the attached screengrab you can see the visibity is on. The layers below work fine. I can step into the dimmed layers and it's fine. But in the comp it is not visible.

In Premiere I would right click the clip and select "Enable."

I assume there's something simple I'm missing, I just haven't been able to figure it out.

Any thoughts? Thanks for any direction.
