I have a shape layer which is my background. Then without diselecting it, I draw a triangle on top of it.

Now that triangle it's a Content of the background layer. What if I want to disconnect that triangle so it's no longer a content but a new layer by it self.

Is there a way to do that?

Correct answer Rick Gerard
  1. Press the 'u' key twice to reveal all of the modified properties of the shape layer
  2. Find the triangle you have drawn and select it
  3. Press Ctrl/Cmnd + X to cut it
  4. Use the Layer menu to create a new shape layer and then paste (Ctrl/Cmnd + v)
