Distribute and Align layers does it wrong for no appearent reason

After Effects 24.01, Win 10 x64

For no reason I can figure out, from time to time, I've been experiencing this issue with the Align panel that it simply does not do things correctly. It gets lost in the spacing of things.
I've attached examples of this, all the text layers are copies of each other with no difference say for what the text says and all the anchor points are attached to the high left corner of each, but this CAN happen with shapes, imported images and pretty much anything I can think of aligning.
