DNxHD playback: perfect in Win10, impossible in AE

Hey there,
probably a silly question, but I believe I tried all advice I could find, so I'm running out of options.
Previewing a DNxHD file in AE smoothly (i.e., not in super slow motion) will not work without endless pre-caching. Of course, there's no way apparent to me to just pre-cache all imported files, so it takes an endless amount of time just to sift through footage.
The preview is set to 25%. The files play back perfectly under VLC etc., so I'm guessing, some setting must be off. Can anyone help me out with a suggestion or two?

System:
Win 10 x64
AMD 8 core FX CPU
980 GTX

32 GB Ram

2 monitors
All SSDs, each on their own SATA 6 GB/s channel
separate scratch disk for AE

Thanks!

Aside from hardware acceleration not working correctly and thus not being realtime, which is perfectly possible with your older NVidia card, there is no way to enforce any of that. It's simply not how AE works. So there's your unsatisfying answer. Short of updateing your graphics drivers or getting a newer card there's no way to make this happen and even then there's no guarantees it will actually work.
