Question

Dynamic linked footage from Premiere is blank in new composition

I worked on an imported video just fine yesterday, and sent it to render queue. Today, I created a new project and imported a nested Premiere clip into After Effects, by using file > Adobe Dynamic Link > Import Premiere Pro Sequence.

The vide shows up fine as "filename/filename.pproj", so I drag it down to the icon to create a new composition. The composition appears, with nothing but a blank black screen.

I've already updated both Premiere and AE to the latest 25.1 versions. I've already cleared ALL cache, closed the app and tried again - but still nothing appears. I even made sure everything is set to Rec. 2100 HLG on both sides.

That's not ideal!

Could you let us know the details of the media you're using (frame rate, frame size, format/codec)? Is the issue repeatable in a new project?

Let us know.

Thanks,
Nishu

The media is captured on a Sony ZV E-10, and pulled into a Premiere project as Rec. 2100 HLG 203

When I look at Sequence settings, I see:

Frame size 3840 x 2160 (16:9)

Pixel aspect ratio Square pixels (1.0)

Display format: 29.97 fps Drop-Frame Timecode (same for timebase

Audio Sample Rate 48000 HZ

Codec: H.264

Auto tone map media is checked

Editing Mode is Custom

I also went to the media window and got properties of a relevant file I tested:

test1

3840 x 2160

00;00;21;00, 29.97 fps

48000 Hz - Stereo

Working Color Space: Rec. 2100 HLG

The above is a nested file, taken from a larger file with these settings:

File Path: /path/zve10_0116.MP4

Type: MPEG Movie

File Size: 25.54 GB

Image Size: 3840 x 2160

Frame Rate: 29.97

Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16-bit - Stereo

Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo

Total Duration: 00;37;00;08

Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0

Alpha: None

Color Space: Rec. 2100 HLG

Color Space Override: Off

Input LUT: None

Video Codec Type: MP4/MOV H.264 4:2:0

In After Effects, I create a new project, If I got to File > Project settings > color, I see “Assume Working Gamma” is set to 2.4 (Rec. 709) with only an option to change it to 2.2 (sRGB) Not sure if this is part of the problem.

I import the file, and I see it as a prproj file. I click:
‘interpret footage’ > main > color and see it’s set  to Media color space of Rec. 709.

If I go to file > project settings > color, it shows:
Color engine: Adobe color managed, with an option to change to OCIO color.

I change Working Color Space to Rec.2100 HLG W203, and the “Assume Working Gamma” that said 2.4 (Rec.709) greys out. Not sure if that gives you everything you need. You may need to guide me to other info. But with the above settings, I get nothing.

I just pulled pieces of the same video footage, nested, into a new Premiere project - everything seems to work fine. I don't want to have to start from scratch though. Maybe you can help identify why I no longer can do this with the existing premiere project. I just tried nesting and importing an entirely new section, still didn't work.
