Error importing AI to AE: "this is an AI file that was saved without PDF content"

I've being doing the same thing for years, and suddenly I'm getting this message, instead of seeing my imported content:

And this is how the file in AI looks.

I'm using AI and AE 2025, seem to be updated to the latest versions.

Nevermind, as always I run here before I read through thoroughly.

I had to save as>then checkmark the "create pdf compatible file"

Still I don't remember ever having to do that in the past...
