Question

Exporting issues (losing MP4 files, audio, etc).

Hello!

I've been using AE for a few years now and never have I had a problem like this before. The difference is, usually my videos are 2 minutes max - this one that I've created is reaching 40 minutes with a large amount of layers, so I'm aware the length and weight of the file is causing problems but unsure of how to fix it.

While editing the video everything has been fine. I finished editing yesterday and decided to try and export it. Upon exporting for the first time, it didn't work. I closed AE and ME and reopened my file. Suddenly, 4 MP4 files that were previously working before were "damaged or unsupported", though they are still playable on my PC - meaning that they're only having issues within the program.

I logged off for the night and today, upon reopening my save, an additional 6 other MP4 files are having the same issue. I lose a few more files every time I re-open. I cut the length of my video to 1 minute to see if that would export well, and everything was still there except for some audio clips which worked within the app's preview. An MP4 file is also showing up as lost media within the export, but is working fine on the preview in the app.

I've cleared my Disk Cache a few times and increased the size of it. My RAM available for AE is fairly low, so I'm wondering if that would have anything to do with it, though it hasn't had issues with any other shorter videos I've had to export before.

Any advice? Thank you!

Well, perhaps you should consider downgrading to 22.5. This "soft" warning doesn't realyl have a solution but is realle some internal thing with the memory manager. Sorry, I know it sucks, but it's unfortunately soemthing only an update can correct.

It's totally okay! Thank you so much - I'll work on my system before anything else. You're a life-saver for helping direct me. Really appreciate it! 🙂

Start by turning off multiframe rendering and also switch the AE rendering to Mercury Software only. You're seriously running low on resources with only 8 GB memory and an older GPU. Likewise, you may need to turn off GPU rendering in AME as well. Running on Windows 11 doesn't improve this situation as there appear to be some conflicts with AE's GPU functions and graphics drivers. Of course after switching all this stuff repeat your drill of cleaning caches and temp files before proceding with the actual render.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately I've not seen any noticable difference - though I'm not losing files upon reopening now which is a good sign, I am still unfortunately losing stuff during the export that remains fine within the preview.

Would this be affected mostly because of my system settings? It seems tampering with AE alone hasn't had many effects on the render + is beginning to affect my computer's performance as it is. 😞

This warning has just begun appearing which leads me to believe it's a problem that I cannot help. :")

Sorry, but this is way too vague to make any sense of it. You need to provide exact system info, details about the comp by ways of screenshots and explanations as well as exact specs of the source files and where you got them from plus other critical info such as hardware acceleration, actual memory and cache settings, render settings and so on.

So sorry! I'm not exactly a tech genius and I've never had a problem with AE before so I was unaware of what would be needed to get more clarity on the issue. Thank you for the reply, for starters!

I've attached a screenshot of my system's info, as well as other information listed in your above message.

The composition is compiled entirely of mp3 audio files and mp4 screen recordings of a video player on Google Chrome (details below). The AE file is 11MB with 900 layers (though merging clips and layers doesn't seem to have any better effect, as I tried that in a different save antd the problem still occurs).

I've also included a screenshot of the warning that comes up every time I re-open my file - each time it claims that different clips are damaged or unsupported. If I continue re-opening my file, eventually every clip will be lost. I've been using Media Encoder to export as Render Queue only exports the audio.

Apologies if none of this is what you're looking for - like I said, I'm no genius navigating these things - was just looking for anyone who may have heard of a similar problem and have general advice. If this doesn't help you understand I hope it may help anyone else familiar with this issue to understand! 🙂
