Question

EXPORTING MATTE LAYERS IN AFTER EFFECTS TO BE USED IN AVID?

I am creating a shape layer in After Effects, that I want to use as a MATTE layer in Avid to create different "looks" for how Archival footage is shown (i.e different shaped boxes etc). However, it only seems to work when I fill in the shape layer with a color. But, the issue is then the Color is represented in Avid on the footage. When I tried it with no color, it does not show anything in Avid. Please help!

There are several ways to do this. Here is one.

  1. In AE set the Comp Background to black and set your shape layer to white.
  2. Animate your shape.
  3. Export as a video file.
  4. Use the layer for a luma matte in Avid.

Thanks for reaching out, christianm13441267

Matt layers are usually black or white. I am not familiar with Avid but the following tutorial should help: https://adobe.ly/4kLCpki

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Nishu

Thanks Nishu. This did not help unfortunately.  You don't know how to create a Shape layer in After effects that can be used in other editing software as a Matte?
