Question

Expression Panel Half Black - Need Help!

Hi everyone,🤓

I'm having an issue with the expression editor in After Effects. When I open the expression panel to write expressions, half of it appears black and I can't see what I'm typing properly.

My Setup:

  • After Effects 25.6.0
  • Windows 11
  • Display scaling: 125%
  • Monitor: BenQ ultrawide

What I've Tried:

  • Removed the DPI scaling override settings in AfterFX.exe properties - this fixed the black expression panel BUT now the entire UI is too small to work with comfortably

The Problem:

It seems like I have to choose between:

  • Having a readable UI with 125% Windows scaling (but half-black expression panel)
  • OR fixing the expression panel but working with a tiny UI at 100% scaling

Is there any way to have both a normal-sized interface AND a working expression panel? This feels like a bug Adobe needs to fix.

Has anyone else experienced this? I suspect it might be related to display scaling or DPI settings, but I'm not sure how to fix it without making the entire interface too small to work with comfortably.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear about the issue, Max.

What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)? Such issues are usually related to the GPU driver. Can you try installing the latest GPU driver available at the manufacturer's website?

Let me know. Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.

Thanks,
Nishu

Thanks, I updated to the new Studio Driver.
So far, it works. I ran a few tests.
The driver was not that old  few week.

I’ll keep you posted if I notice any other glitches.
