I created a shape using a shape layer then the pen tool. I then made it a 3d layer and then changed the renderer to cinema 4d. In the geometry I only get curvature and segments. What did I forget to do?

As Roei says, you are using a solid with a mask. You will never find an Extrusion parameter under these conditions.

You need to create a Shape Layer, then change your renderer to Cinema 4D and you will have the extrusion parameter that you are looking for.

What we see here is a solid layer not a shape.
