Eyedropper not working in Keylight

I'm new to After Effects and Keylighting so I'm sure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. I just can't figure out what it is. I select the background color of my animation so it will become transparent. For some reason, this masking does not work. See attached files. Any help is appreciated.

Keylight is built to work with green and blue screens, it has all sorts of issues if your key colour is something other than that.

Use Linear Colour Key as a tool to key grey out of your image, it's a much simpler plugin than Keylight, but will key any colour you throw at it.  As you've noted, the redundant "Key Colour" plugin would also work.

This is non-keyable. You have a complete misunderstanding of the process. There is zero distinctiveness in luminance and the keying algorithm just cannot work. You will need to find a different approach like generating mattes with channel effects.

Thanks. I'll try that. Just to be clearer than I was, the image is a raster image, not a vector one.
