Failing to export a mp4 file for trying to load a Non-existent file

Hello everyone

I  would like to export my composition in the mp4 format and could do so until just a few days ago when exporting the composition in combination with Media Encoder suddenly began failing with the following error message:

- Source File: /Users/[username]/Desktop/top_top+sound.mov

- Output File: /Users/[username]/Desktop/top_top+sound.mp4

- Preset Used: Custom

- Video:

- Audio:

- Bitrate:

- Encoding Time: 00:00:00

01/31/2019 09:38:04 AM : Encoding Failed

------------------------------------------------------------

Could not read from the source. Please check if it has moved or been

deleted.

------------------------------------------------------------

I went through the list of the files in the Project and Timeline panes only to find no such file as top_top+sound.mov or top_top+sound.mp4. Searching for the same file using the search boxes return no results also.

Is this a bug? Why is After Effects trying to encode the non-existent file and how can this be troubleshooted?

Some help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Correct answer Eadig

The cause of the problem was the NAS drive not letting the project file link to each asset file.

Once I moved the file to the local environment, AE started successfully exporting the composition in the mp4 format.

Thanks for your help all the same.

I checked every link in the Project panel but none of them was connected to top_top+sound.mov and in fact the Desktop has no such file... Anyway, I deleted all of the broken links from the same panel and tried exporting the composition all over again ending up with the following error which continuously points at 'Video Of The Universe_2':

- Source File: /Users/dnish/Projects/Franchises/Franchise Site/Top Video/Project_20032019_AME/tmpAEtoAMEProject-Video Of The Universe_2.aep

- Output File: /Users/dnish/Desktop/Video Of The Universe.mp4

- Preset Used: Match Source - Medium bitrate

- Video: 1280x720 (1.0), 23.976 fps, Progressive, Hardware Encoding, 00:02:00:00

- Audio: AAC, 192 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo

- Bitrate: VBR, 1 pass, Target 3.00 Mbps

- Encoding Time: 00:00:36

03/22/2019 01:22:45 PM : Encoding Failed

-------------------------------------

The Operation was interrupted by user

-------------------------------------

[Then a similar message repeats concerning the same file.]

It says 'The Operation was interrupted by user' even though I didn't abort it the process..

Video Of The Universe.mp4 does exist but replacing the link to reference the file all over results in the same error...

Could this be a codec issue as discussed in Rendering Media Encoder "Failed" (From After Effects)  or something else?

Did you try to export another file, so just do some test to be sure if the issue come from AE or from AME, also did you try to restart your PC?

i'm little bit confuse from your issue, you say the AME have issue read this file

- Source File: /Users/[username]/Desktop/top_top+sound.mov

and this not a AE composition it's a movie file in your desktop, anyway even if there missing link AME will continue rendering the file.

so be sure to repeat everything (clean your media encoder queue) and send you composition to AME again and try to render
