FASTEST Computer on Planet yet SLOW AE Performance :(

AE 2023 (and Maxon One plugins) seem to have real trouble with any comps longer than 2 seconds.   I have the fastest computer on the planet right now (AMD3990X 64 core CPU with Dual 3090TI Founders edition GPUs, 256GB Ram and a 15GB/sec 8TB SSD Raid drive all water cooled) but AE manages to make this beast slower than using a pre '80s laptop.   I have one (yes 1) Particular emitter with 60 particles  per second (lifespan of about 1 sec)  and I'm just trying to get 30 seconds of tea cup steam animation...Simplest setup every but it's a no-can-do.     CPU is at 2% and GPU is also 1-2%.   It's making me insane!   I will probably just start pre-rendering Trapcode Particular from Nuke or some other software.  Is there some magic setting in AE that I don't know about?  a "USE MORE CPU and GPU POWER" check box would be nice!!!

I would not think After Effects supports the multiple GPU card. The external link below may help you to understand the performance on After Effects.

What do you want with a 64 core CPU for AE? This is the same old story. Wrong computer for AE. Despite multiframe rendering and all that stuff most things in AE still process linearly and with only a handful of threads, so of course the majority of your CPU will never even be used and the ones that are of course only represent a minor fraction of the overall resources. Roland does of course have a point with GPU stuff also mattering, but at the end of the day you'll never see your machine fully used. It's simply not how AE works.

I will usually launch 5 instances of AERender to get faster renders since AE doesn't seem to make efficient use of the hardware even when it's just straight up compositing.  And yes i agree in this "particular" case it's because Trapcode Partiular isn't multi-threaded and will only use one core.  Still it was super annoying that even though i'm only generating 60 particles per second with life of 1 sec, the longer the timeline is the slower it became.  It would start really fast then get slower... and slower.. and slower as if it was still calculating particles that had died off?  Not sure but I ended up just making a 30sec loop (and pre-rendering it) rather than a 3.5 minute loop.

Most of these issues are related to GPU drivers and plugin versions not being up to date. Ensure these are updated and if the problem persists please let us know the versions of your OS, AE, GPU and plugins (Maxon plugins).  HTH
