I finally found where the faux bold option has been moved to (dont know why it was necesarry to move, but I digress).
When I try to apply to my text, nothing happens. It works with some fonts, but not the font I need it to work with...which is not helpful.
Faux does not work with Open Type Variable fonts.
When I talk to the team about this, they suggest that the whole faux functionality should be ripped out and buried in a hole.
So they are not going to extend this feature in any way.
