Fill effect not working

I have a paint effect which is automatically set to grey. I don't like the color so I added the fill effect after grey on the layer name-PC. I set the color to white, but this doesn't change the color at all. I change it to red, and it becomes a darker red, almost like it blends the grey and red. I just want the font to be white. Why is my fill effect not filling?
