Flame/wave effect on top part of logo

Question

I'm trying to create a flame/waving effect on a logo. The logo is the letter "W" and I want the three parts on the top half of it to appear to be on fire. In other words, have the W act like a fire with the bottom part not moving much and the top part moving more (like a campfire). What is the recommended way of doing this? Thanks.

Easily done using the good old Displacement Map and constructing a suitable map layer in a pre-comp based on a gradient and some Fractal Noise. I suggest you read the online help look up a tutorial on this technique and just experiment a little.
