Footage 'Advanced 3D' layer alters the color luma levels

When I switch from Classic 3D to Advanced 3D in the latest version of After Effects it alters my footage luma levels. Initially I thought it was a bug, but then I discovered that it can be recovered using curves and also by adding an Ambient light and adjusting the settings (set Ambient to 100% and everything else to 0%) - see video link example. - https://vimeo.com/1023856696/edddc7255a?share=copy

Is this expected behaviour?

Correct answer Rick Gerard

I would expect a difference in lighting effects when you switch from Classic 3D to Advanced 3D because Advanced 3D treats comp lighting and shadows entirely differently. The same thing happens in 3D apps if you change the rendering engine.
