Free 3D Line In After Effect

Hello everyone.

I have a project that requires me to create a 3D stroke. I tried to draw a line using the pen tool and then enabled the 3D layer. When I rotate the layer, it's just a flat image. When I try to adjust the point, it's just another flat image. Can anyone suggest how to a real 3D line/stroke in After Effect?
