Freezing when i open media & disk cache in prefrences

when i go edit > prefrences > media & disk cache to change disk cache file location, after effects freezes and i have to close out of the software. It's the same with trying to change my RAM usage in the prefrences tab, i was able to change it once but not it freezes.

Are you able to access other Preferences tabs? Try running After Effects as an administrator (on Windows). As Mylenium suggested, try resetting the preferences. Here's how: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-after-effects/td-p/10634342
