Are there any layer styles used on the layers? that faint bevle must come from somewhere. If so, you may need to pre-compose since styles are applied after effects and the render order produces a different result than the other way around.

I've tried pre-compose already.. Basically this is a .png file with 2 shape layers, which have the glow effect

You're probably whacking out colors by using 32bpc mode and cranking up the glow, which doesn't go down well with your other graphics. Anyway, without proper info on your setup we can't tell you much on what would be the best fix. Could be that you just need to apply a Compander/ ColorProfile converter beforehand, could be pre-composing, could be using different settings on the Glow. eitehr way, you need to be much more specific and explain what you're actually doing there. Cropped screenshots of the comp window only realyl aren't telling us anything about effect settings and other stuff.

It's really hard to know whats going on from all these cropped screengrabs - fullscreen screengrabs of the entire workspace with all edited parameters displayed make a huge difference.

But it looks like you're applying your glow to layers that have additional pixels on the edges of the images, and these are glowing as well.  The simple solution is to crop these pixels out, either with masks, or do it in Photoshop if they're not needed at all.
