Gradient fill doesn't work for me

Gradient fill doesn't work for me. I tried radial gradient and Linear.

I am trying to add a gradient for the shadow of this door, but it only puts black and does not have a gradient.

I also tried on other shapes and it does the same thing. How do I fix this?

Ok, it doesn't work when I use the pen tool. But it works when I create a shape.

But the issue is, why doesn't it let me put the gradient on a shape when I make it with the pen tool?
