Grey box on Composition Background Cant get rid of

Been working on a project for two days and everything's fine. Today I did a little square grey box for a track matte. Didn't like it so I deleted the layer. But box stayed on screen. I disabled every layer trying to figure out where it was but it is not on any layer. Somehow it seems it ended up on composition background and is visible in every layer. Anyone know why this happened or more importantly how to get rid of it without starting over?

Thanks.

Correct answer Szalam

Clear all your memory and caches.

This was a bug in CC 2015 that's been (mostly) fixed in newer versions.

Thanks. Does it mean I have to start over with this project? Thanks again.

What? No!

It just means to hit this menu option:

You could also consider installing the newer version of AE too. But, again, you wouldn't have to restart your project; the new version of AE can open files created with the CC 2015 release.

Heck, some of these caching problems were fixed just in updates to CC 2015! What's the exact version number you are using? Help>About After Effects will tell you.
