Hello David,

my problem is that my workflow requires H264 as required for my clients.  At this point I would be fine downgrading AE,  I did not keep my old version. Can you guide me in the downgrading process?  Thank you!

In the CC desktop app, click the little arrow on the right side of After Effects' Open button, and select "Other Versions".

So they keep h.264 in AME and Premiere... but not After Effects.

What used to take about a minute to export a small client approval directly from AE now takes about 7-10 minutes to get AME up and running, get the Composition sent over, dynamic link open to adjust and then render.

And the file size is about 4 times the size as the old AE H.264.

Whoever made this decision at Adobe is an Ass... there's no other way to say it.

Put the freakin' codec back!!

Adobe did this a couple of years ago and pissed off a lot of people including me.  They removed an H.264 option from MainStream that created excellent quality outputs in very small file sizes.  They claimed it was for the betterment of the program and users.  What a bunch of HorseSh•t that was.  It took hours and hours of experimentation  to find an H.264 formula to get decent quality but the file sizes were much much larger.

Now they are screwing us again by removing a perfectly functioning codec and instructing to use Media Encoder.  Media Encoder sucks.  Outputs take significantly longer, not to mention you need to be running two programs and splitting your RAM.  Its only useful if you have a lot of time and a lot of disparate AE projects you need to render.

I need a quick and easy way to render out small H.264 files directly from AE.  Once again Adobe has screwed the pooch.  You guys really need to return this codec.

Another Pissed off customer!!

I have the same question, I have two versions installed, it is still present in the old one, but absent in the new one! It is also absent from the Media Encoder! Hope it gets fixed soon, as I have to keep using the version of the software meanwhile

Perhaps you would care to actually explain what you are having issues with rather than spitting bullet points and slapping them in our face.

What else is there to say?  I upgraded today and there is no H264 options (codec) when I try to render something. My output templates are all there, but since it can't find the H264 codec it renders using the animation codec. Nobody is spitting bullets and slapping it in your face, too bad you feel that way.

Only these codecs are available:

Adobe have removed support for a number of legacy Quicktime formats in the current release of After Effects.  H264 Quicktime is one of those.
