Having some trouble exporting 1080x1080 or 1080x1350 out of After effects

Having some trouble exporting 1080x1080 or 1080x1350 out of After effects. Sometimes it will just render a black video. Another time I had it squash the video size and have a blank green box at the bottom.

This seems to only happen on High Quality (on mac that is Apple Pro Res 422) settings. Doesnt do it if I switch to a different codec like Pro Res HQ or LT..

I am on M1 Max

I've seen another comment on this issue when rendering into ProRes. Probably is a bug in After Effects. Anyway, try to deactivate GPU acceleration. Go to File > Project Settings and select Mercury Software Only under the VIdeo Rendering and Effects tab and try to render again.

I had set Mercury intially, just tried metal.. Still no go for 422. I am sure its a bug. It looks like AE is rendering everything fine and video files size is 170 mb for a 15 second black video which is telling me something is happening with the meta data inside the video file.

If it is possible for you to upload the project (without footage) so I can render it to see if I have the same problem? I have the exact same configuration (M1 MAX). It would be great to check it to report Adobe if something is wrong with prores renders.

Please make sure that your video drivers are up to date.
