How can I make this orbiting card animation in After Effects?

Hi everyone, I’m trying to understand how this animation was made in After Effects.

There are several video cards/precomps orbiting around an invisible elliptical path. The whole orbit seems to rotate and tilt in 3D, while the cards move from front to back but stay facing the camera.

I tried using 3D layers, nulls, and Auto-Orient Towards Camera, but my cards become slightly tilted and don’t stay perfectly straight.

What would be the correct setup or rig for this kind of animation?

I’m not trying to copy the design, I just want to understand the technique.

Hi Susanna,Thanks for reaching out. Have you tried rotating the clips after enabling Auto-Orient Towards Camera to fix the tilting? If you can share a screen recording that shows the problem, it would be helpful.Thanks,Nishu
