How can I rotate shatter without rotating the image it's applied to?

I'm trying to use the shatter effect on a layer but whenever I rotate the shatter camera to match the perspective of the clip the entire clip gets moved as well. How can I rotate the shatter effect without rotating the clip beneath it?

I appreciate the people who helped, but I found a (honestly pretty bad) workaround. I used the effect's camera position to rotate the shatter effect the way I wanted it to look then used a fill effect to make the distortion white and applied a set matte on the desired clip. Ofc I can't see any depth this way but that's not really something I needed for that project so I simply reduced the extrusion depth to 0. I'm currently figuring out how to make the clip move as well since right now it's shattering yes but the original clip still isn't moving. Probably something I can do with a displacement map. If anyone has a more efficient/flexible way of doing this any help is still appreciated.

If you have a shot with a moving camera, Camera track the shot, then select Comp Camera in Shatter.

If you take a screenshot of your comp that shows the modified properties of the problem layers and the footage (press 'uu'), then drag it to the reply field instead of using the "Drag & drop here..." button so we can see it without downloading, we can probably help you figure it out.

Hi Micheal!

please try the following steps:

  1. Pre-compose your footage layer.
  2. Apply the Shatter effect to the pre-composed layer.
  3. Create a Null Object (Layer > New > Null Object).
  4. Parent the Shatter effect to the Null Object.
  5. Rotate the Null Object to adjust the shatter effect without affecting the underlying clip.                                                                                           Thanks

You can't. You need to apply whatever rotation you want in a pre-comp and use the effect in the parent comp after everything has been put in place.
