How do I correctly taper rounded strokes? (see video)

I am trying to taper a rounded stroke so that the stroke size gradually increases, however the settings seems to rigidly slice it, instead of giving me a small to big taper that maintains roundness.

 

What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do?
