How is this done? - Halftone transition ("On Type with Erik Spiekermann")

One of my favorite pieces of animation, Creativity Explained: On Type with Erik Spiekermann (Oddfellows)

https://vimeo.com/532024091

I love the transition that happens between 0:26 - 0:29. How would I go about replicating this sort of animation? I have an idea about an expression or two that might be used, but can't quite figure out the rest. Anybody out there know how something like this is done?

Appreciate any direction/thoughts, thank you!

Correct answer Mylenium

There are halftone effects in third-party plug-in suites liek Sapphire and Boris FX or even this one https://aescripts.com/m-s-halftone/. Otherwise there's any number of ways to create this stuff manualyl with effects liek Particle Playground, Card Dance or third-party plug-ins like Trapcode Form using static particle grids. Similarly, CC Ball action can create the illusion of such patterns and once you start exploring techniques, there's a million ways to enhance and combine all these things. It really depends on how frequently you're gonna need it and what your skillset is, as apparently manually creating it stil ltakes time. Buying the 20 dollar plug-in from AEScripts.com might be the quickest road to success.

Awesome, thanks for the info Mylenium. While searching for other halftone scripts I came across this one which looks like it has just the flexibility I need: https://www.aesweets.com/halftone/
