Question

How to achieve this gradual/selective logo reveal animation

Hey you guys,

Wondering if anyone knowledgeable would be gracious enough to share with me the method used to achieve the logo reveal that is seen at the end of this Mazda commercial:

Mazda CUV Anthem | Mazda USA - YouTube  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YckRYGprkCU

I suspect it would have something to do with applying instances of the Spotlight Effect, but I don't know how to polish up or finesse the overall motion and look.

Whatever help that can be provided is greatly appreciated!

I would do try to recreate that in two ways:
a) 3D model (extruded model) of logo and play with lights (spot and point)
b) flat logo and some work with masks and mask reveals

Yes, I agree with Emil, most likely a full 3D logo with animated lighting rendered in a 3D software. As Emil suggests you could try and simulate something similar with masking, but it would be a lot of work.

Depending on what you're working on you might also look at using the 'bevel and emboss' options of layer styles (set the technique to Chisel Hard and increase the value of the Size property). You could animate the lighting angle and attitude to give you somewhat similar effects.
